Our client, a Leading Construction firm with Galway Head Office is seeking a Buyer for their procurement and supply chain function.

This role plays a crucial part in the successful execution of construction projects, ensuring that materials and services are procured efficiently, cost-effectively, and in compliance with company standards. It requires a combination of negotiation skills, technical knowledge, and effective communication.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Purchase Order Management: Place purchase orders with selected suppliers following negotiations and ensuring compliance with company procurement policies.
  2. Supplier Negotiations: Discuss terms and conditions with suppliers to secure favorable agreements and pricing.
  3. Price Comparisons: Conduct price comparisons among potential suppliers to identify the most cost-effective options.
  4. Cost Management: Manage and report on actual costs versus budget costs to ensure cost control and budget adherence.
  5. Communication: Liaise effectively with the Site Management Team to understand project requirements and coordinate procurement activities accordingly.
  6. Supplier Sourcing: Continuously source new suppliers to expand the supplier network and maintain a competitive edge.
  7. Tender Review: Review Tender Bill of Quantities (BOQs) and pricing with relevant suppliers to ensure accuracy and competitiveness in bids.

Key Skills:

  1. Building Material Knowledge: While not essential, knowledge of building materials is preferred as it can facilitate informed procurement decisions.
  2. Time Management: Ability to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines to ensure the timely ordering of goods and services, critical in construction projects.
  3. IT Skills: Proficiency in using IT tools such as Excel and Outlook for data analysis and communication. Experience with SAP or other procurement software is advantageous.
  4. Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively negotiate with suppliers, collaborate with the Site Management Team, and convey procurement-related information.
  5. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve project procurement goals.
