We are recruiting a Senior Civil Engineer/PM on behalf of our client, a Multidisciplinary Engineering Consultancy based in Galway. This position requires a minimum Level 8 qualification in Engineering (or equivalent qualification appropriate to the tasks assigned) and Chartered Membership of Engineers Ireland.

Senior Civil Engineer – Job Responsibilities:

A Senior Civil Engineer/ Project Manager holds the primary accountability for ensuring the successful technical and financial execution of the project. The candidate will be tasked with the following:

  • Project Planning, Scheduling, and Resource Management: Collaborating with the relevant Operations Director, this role involves formulating project plans, schedules, and allocation of resources. Additionally, overseeing the management of these resources.
  • Quality Assurance: Implementing comprehensive Quality Management Systems (QMS/EMS/OHSAS) for all project aspects.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring adherence to all legal requirements, including obligations related to Health and Safety in the project and Building Control and Regulation (BCAR) obligations.
  • Financial Management: Managing project finances, including monitoring cash flow based on project milestones and accurate invoicing dates, invoicing clients, tracking payments, and effectively managing project debtors.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintaining open lines of communication with the client and internal communication with the Operations Director, Operations Manager, and the project team.
  • Project Initiation: Securing a well-defined project brief, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and obtaining client acceptance of terms and conditions (typically through a signed contract or fee agreement).
  • Project Program Development: Establishing a mutually agreed-upon project schedule with the client.
  • Team Coordination: Ensuring all team members, including other divisions, are clear about their roles in the project and the budget constraints they need to operate within (including hours and expenses).
  • Sub-Consultant Management: Enforcing company procedures when dealing with sub-consultants.
  • Design Oversight: Verifying that all designs are prepared by competent personnel and independently reviewed before submission to the client.
  • Client-Centric Delivery: Ensuring the team delivers precisely what the client has requested, avoiding unnecessary extras.

Required Skills for a Senior Civil Engineer/ Project Manager:

To excel in this role, the following skills are essential:

  1. Strong Written and Verbal Communication: Exceptional proficiency in English language communication, both in writing and speaking, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  2. Management Systems: Proficiency in utilizing management systems.
  3. Knowledge of Engagement Conditions: In-depth understanding of engagement conditions or similar consultancy contracts used in service delivery with clients.
  4. Construction Contracts Proficiency: A solid grasp of construction contracts, including the various Forms of Contract employed in the Public Works Management Framework.
  5. Willingness to Seek Help: Recognizing that asking for assistance when needed, and doing so promptly, is a strength rather than a weakness.
