Our Client are specialists in the Power and Utility Industry, providing construction, Maintenance and Upgrade works throughout Ireland. Currently they are on the lookout for a Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Dublin. This position will provide support in all areas to the Power Division as well as to the team members and requires a high degree of technical knowledge, business acumen and people management. As the technical lead on HV projects, you will be responsible for engineering solutions spanning grid connection and customer-side installations, from conceptualization through detailed design to construction, energization, and handover. This is a full-time, permenent position.
Responsibilities:
- Creating primary substation design layouts.
- Conducting busbar system calculations, thermal, and mechanical loading analysis.
- Developing secondary designs, including control and protection schematics.
- Sizing and specifying auxiliary AC and DC systems.
- Conducting protection coordination studies.
- Designing lightning protection, protective shielding, and earthing systems.
- Overseeing factory and site acceptance testing.
- Handling interface engineering with Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Distribution System Operators (DSOs).
- Specifying and procuring major electrical plant items.
- Reviewing the work of other engineers on the team.
- Ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery of engineering elements.
- Integrating health and safety considerations and regulations at all project stages.
- Mentoring and nurturing the development of junior staff members.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A primary degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred but not mandatory.
- Desirable: 3 years of similar experience.
- Desirable: Previous experience in MV/HV design, HV substation, and underground cable design.
- Advantageous: Prior experience in grid connections, renewable energy projects, or airfield works.
- Preferred: Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, diagnostic capabilities, and familiarity with Auto-CAD and ePlan P8 or equivalent software.
