Our client, a leading Utilities contractor is currently seeking a Electrical Design Engineer to join them in Limerick. The client in questions have operations throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe serving diverse sectors including Data Centres, Renewables, and Transmission and Distribution Utilities. You will be based in Limerick. This is a full-time, permenent position.
Responsibilities:
- Develop primary substation design layouts to meet project requirements.
- Conduct busbar system calculations, assessing thermal and mechanical loads for optimal performance.
- Create secondary designs, including the preparation of control and protection schematics.
- Size and specify auxiliary AC and DC systems, ensuring compatibility and efficiency.
- Perform protection coordination studies to safeguard electrical systems.
- Design lightning protection, protective shielding, and effective earthing systems.
- Oversee factory and site acceptance testing to validate equipment functionality.
- Collaborate on interface engineering with Transmission System Operators (TSO) and Distribution System Operators (DSO) for seamless project integration.
- Manage the specification and procurement of major electrical components, ensuring quality and compliance.
- Conduct design reviews of projects executed by fellow engineers on the team.
- Ensure that engineering deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget constraints.
- Integrate health and safety considerations and regulatory compliance at every stage of project development.
- Foster the professional growth and mentorship of junior staff members.
Qualifications:
- While not mandatory, possessing a primary degree in Electrical Engineering is advantageous.
- Desirable: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Preferred: Previous experience in MV/HV design, HV substation design, and underground cable design.
- A background in grid connections, renewable energy, or airfield projects is a significant advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, including diagnostic skills.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and ePlan P8 or similar software is highly preferred.
